Excessive Sweating

Excessive Sweating

Excessive Sweating
Common Excessive Sweating Areas

Do you think you sweat more than other people? Do you sweat heavily regardless of what you are doing and regardless of the temperature?

I am right now in a cool air conditioned room and as I sit down to write this article the sweat has started to pour from my right armpit almost uncontrollably. Just 5 minutes ago while I was sitting reading the newspaper my armpits were dry and I wasn’t sweating.

I suffer from excessive sweating but it didnt start until I was in my late twenties and I didn’t realise there was a condition called Hyperhidrosis until the internet came along!

Excessive sweating is a hassle and in medical terms is known as Hyperhidrosis. In  some situations it can be more than just a hassle and can indicate a medical illness, however more often than not it is harmless.

If you sweat more than others in everyday situations such as heavy exertion or when it is hot and humid then that is quite normal. Excessive sweating is in quite another leaugue and can cause considerable embarrassment as well as as eroding confidence.

I like to keep perspective on my condition and realise that it is annoying but things could be a whole lot worse. In the big scheme of things suffering from excessive sweating is not such a big deal and we shouldn’t let it ruin our lives.

Most sufferes of hyperhidrosis have what is known as focal hyperhidrosis, meaning that you sweat excessively in one particular area only. For me it is my right armpit. For others it could be the chest, groin or buttocks and I would suggest that all sufferers sweat heavily on their backs. The most difficult focal hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating in the hands.

Whilst sweating in other body areas can be overcome by using sweat proof clothing or other remedies and can be tackled physcoligically by realising that the problem is annoying but not life changing, it must be recognized that sweating in the hands can, unfortunately, be a life changing hinderance. Of the customers I hear from who have had surgery to combat their hyperhidrosis it is most usually sufferers of excessive sweating in the palm of the hands.

Anxiety sweating is another form of excessive sweating but is different to hyperhidrosis although the 2 can co exist as they do in my case. I remember attending a job interview in Beijing in winter. It was minus 9 degree celcius outside and I arrived at the interview with sweat marks all the way through to my suit jacket (this was before I had my sweatshield undershirts, this would never of happened if I had them then). It was a panel interview and as the interview unfolded I was getting sweatier and wetter by the minute. One of the interviewers was looking at me with alarm and asked if I was ok. Of course that just made it worse!

If you do suffer from excessive sweating I would urge you to take as positive an outlook as possible on it. I travel frequently to a region which suffers from poverty. Whenever I visit the region I see people in far worse situations and with far worse afflictions than myself and it reminds me that in the big scheme of things suffering from hyperhidrosis, whilst a hinderance, is nothing compared to the suffering that some people are forced to endure on a daily basis with seemingly no way out. Seeing this is humbling and brings everything into perspective.

Using the right tools (such as sweat proof undershirts, clinical strength deodorant and medically recommended treatments) should be able to bring you close to a level of appearing unaffected. Please keep the problem in perspective and I hope you can avoid letting excessive sweating get you down.

Sweaty Armpits

Sweaty Armpits
Sweaty Armpits Affect Both Men and Women
Sweaty Armpits
This embarrassing problem comes in varying degrees of severity and strikes at various times.

I would class the sweaty armpits problem into 4 categories.

Normal – Low

Sweats very little apart from after heavy exertion or exercise. I have seen people walking around in the 33 Celsius heat of Singapore wearing a blue shirt and with no visible sweat marks whatsoever (and I mean white Caucasians not Asians who don’t sweat heavily
anyway).

Normal

Experiences sweaty armpits when hot or after exercise or physical exertion. Can also experience the problem when under
stressful situations.

Heavy

A heavy sweater sweats more than normal and this generally manifests in sweaty armpits and sweat on the back and chest.

Hyperhidrosis

I suffer from hyperhidrosis and for me this manifests itself in sweaty armpits but most predominantly the right underarm. I am noticing more and more that this is caused by psychological situations rather than ambient setting.

My Recent Experience and Trials

I wanted to write about this topic for two reasons. Firstly I have been on a diet recently and lost around 20 pounds using a slow carbohydrate diet (from the book The Four Hour Body, the diet part is good but the rest of the book goes off on a bizarre tangent in my opinion).

I already know that when I am exercising I sweat very little and many friends have commented on this (it is extremely hot and humid where I live) but yet I sweat massively from my right armpit during any other time. This is surely a strange phenomenon in and of itself!

But the strangest thing happened when I was on the slow carbohydrate diet…I noticed that my sweating diminished significantly. It was bizarre; I mean I really noticed that I was sweating a lot less. Now a lot less for me still puts me in the heavy category but really the change was very noticeable.

I am still trying to work out what foods I eat normally that I didn’t eat during the diet. If I figure it out exactly I would love to research it more and share the findings with you. Give me a bit more time on that!

The second reason is because I just came back from an interview today for a magazine doing an article on Sweatshield Undershirts. It was the first time I have ever done anything like that and for the first time in weeks the sweat levels from my right armpit went through the roof!! My undershirt stopped most of it but I was soaked through by the time the interview was over (luckily the undershirt absorbed 99% of it).

I have been noticing this for a very long time now; the relationship between mental state and sweating and consequently sweaty armpits. So it seems clear to me that changing your physcological outlook and changing your diet could definitely help with
sweating.

Here are a couple of other things I tried recently.

Shave My Armpits – This did help to some extent but maybe only 2% to 3% difference.

Antiperspirants -  As I am sure you already know these do nothing for the heavy sweater.

SweatBlock – This is like a clinical strength deodorant wipe that comes in small sachets. I was verysceptical as to whether these would work for someone with sweaty armpits as bad as mine. I was correct; they had no impact for me whatsoever despite the rave reviews. For the normal sweater though I do believe they could make a difference in summer.

Based on the feedback I receive from customers I don’t think I will ever comment on the medically available options for sufferers of heavy sweating but this may be worth referencing at a later stage.

Well those are my main thoughts on sweating and sweaty armpits for this week. I hope to report in more detail the effects of the diet on my sweating as I am still quite dumbfounded by that.

Have a great week!

Womens Undershirts

Womens Undershirts

Womens Undershirts are becoming more and more popular each year and for varying reasons. With their increased popularity designs and fabrics are changing to better suit womens needs when it comes to undershirts.

Men can thank women for comfortable undershirts as many of today’sundershirts for men are made using micro modal fabric which was first used in womens underwear and clothing. This incredibly soft and luxurious  fabric is quickly gaining popularity in both
mens and womens undershirts.

Another development has been in the realisation that women also need undershirts to help with the problem of embarrassing sweat marks. First things first though and let’s get this straight. Men sweat but women perspire!

Womens undershirts are now available with additional underarm protection in the same way that mens undershirts are. They have been designed with women in mind and have deep plunging scoop necks and shorter sleeve lengths whilst still allowing for adequate sweat protection. They also now come in both long length to stay tucked in (and also great when layered)or shorter length so they are not visible with low riding trousers or skirts.

It always made sense to me that both women and men who work in the service industry would benefit from wearing light weight breathable undershirts and it was interesting to read recently that Air Asia have incorporated shape fitting womens undershirts into their new uniforms. These apparently help with posture and muscle support during flights.

Well womens undershirts are available in a few places nowadays and of course they are available right here on this site at Sweatshield Undershirts!

Hope you have a great week folks!

Armpit Stains

Armpit Stains

Armpit Stains

Armpit Stains

Armpit stains look unsightly, ruin your clothes and are difficult to remove. So what then is the best way to combat Armpit stains?

Armpit stains are caused by a mix of your own sweat and the ingredients of the deodorant that we all use on a daily basis. How heavily you sweat will impact how severe the armpit stains can get.

On Business shirts there is nothing worse than the look of yellow armpit stains and on t shirts the heavy white staining that ironically only disappears when overridden by fresh sweat!

In my own case I find that within 6 months of purchasing a business shirt I will have quite dark yellow armpit stains if the shirt is white in colour and for t shirts and casual shirts I find I actually get quite a heavy build-up of white armpit stains under the underarms to the point where the underarm area is actually stiff with residue from sweat and deodorant.

Preventing Armpit Stains

Interestingly enough Sweatshield Undershirts were not designed to prevent armpit stains but rather to absorb sweat. However my own observation and that of many of my friends and clients is that by wearing Sweatshield undershirts you will prevent armpit stains completely.

This was a very pleasing side effect for me and as much as I hate over promotion I can honestly say that I no longer have any armpit stains on my shirts and no sweat stain build up on my casual shirts.

It is no exaggeration to say that my shirts and casual shirts now last 3 times longer than they did before as the undershirt absorbs the armpit stains instead. The undershirts literally pay for themselves in the longer life of my shirts.

I hate putting on a shirt now without my Sweatshield Undershirts because I hate to think of how quickly my shirt will be ruined by armpit stains!

Removing Armpit Stains

We guarantee that you will not suffer armpit stains and yellow sweat stains on your shirts but for older shirts there are a number of remedies available online to remove armpit stains. Most seem to involve lemon juice and plenty of scrubbing but they do seem to work. Youtube has quite a few examples.

Thanks for reading the article and if you want to prevent armpit stains and triple the time that your shirts last then now you have the answer!

Have a great week!

Sweat Proof Underwear

Sweat Proof Undershirt

Sweat Proof Underwear

Hi Folks

I wanted to start off the weekly blogs with an article about Sweat Proof Underwear. When I say Sweat Proof Underwear I am mainly referring to Sweat Proof Undershirts but more about that later.

When considering options to help you control sweating and sweat marks there are a lot of different products and solutions available from clinical strength deodorants, underarm shields, Sweat Proof Underwear and Botox treatment right through to surgery.

One of the reasons that Sweat Proof Underwear is so effective is because it covers ALL of your sweat prone areas. Sweat Proof Underwear covers your back, chest stomach and underarms. Underarm deodorants and underarm shields only cover the underarm still leaving you exposed in other vital areas.

It is important though to choose the right Sweat Proof Underwear for your own needs. Sweat Proof Underwear needs to be something that you can feel great about wearing every day and therefore it needs to be extremely comfortable, light and breathable. Obviously Sweat Proof Underwear also needs to be effective and here are some of the key factors you need to look for when choosing Sweat Proof Underwear.

  1. Lightweight fabric to ensure you stay cool
  2. Body contouring for style and comfort
  3. Extremely absorbent fabric to hold moisture
  4. Additional reinforcement in sweat prone areas such as the underarm
  5. Affordable enough to wear every day.

I have personally tried every type and brand of Sweat Proof Underwear on the market and obviously we designed Sweatshield Undershirts to incorporate the best design features.

When choosing Sweat Proof Underwear here are some of the pitfalls to be aware of:

  1. Sweat Proof Underwear that comes with a chemical treatment that claims to make the fabric sweat proof can irritate the nipples making them very sore within one or two hours of wearing.
  2. Sweat Proof Underwear that is too thick and bulky and sits badly under your clothing making you look untidy and detracting from your style.
  3. Sweat Proof Underwear that has complicated washing procedures to follow to ensure performance.
  4. Sweat Proof Underwear that has bulky underarm pads that are positioned incorrectly causing poor sweat absorption and feel “wieldy” under the arms
  5. Sweat Proof Underwear that is just too plain bulky, hot and uncomfortable to wear every day.

Sweat Proof Underwear for the bottom half of the body is not something I have tried and is something that is difficult to find. Being that we sit on our rear ends all day and force high pressure contact between our skin, underwear and outer garment I imagine that it would be difficult to engineer Sweat Proof Underwear to work effectively for the lower half (legs not withstanding).

Next  time out we want to talk about using Sweat Proof Underwear to effectively  stop that horrible yellow underarm staining that can ruin clothes in a matter of weeks. Sweat Proof Underwear can stop this from happening and we will discuss this in more depth next week.

Thanks for dropping by the blog and your comments or feedback are always welcome at timshaw@sweatshieldundershirt.com

Have a great week ahead.
